Loreto

Loreto is a delightful town about 220 mils north of La Paz and as far north as we will get in the Sea of Cortez.Looking down the Malecon.

Another view of the Malecon

Look closely. This is not a real Palm tree but a cell tower in disguise!

Isla Los Coronados

Another great sunset. This seems to happen every day.

From the highway between Escondido and Loreto.

Looking down one of the streets in Loreto near the Cathedral and the Mission.

A view from a distance of the bell tower on the Cathedral.

The town square with dancing and live music.

A closer view of the bell tower.

The side entrance to the Cathedral next to the Mission.

The main entrance.

In side the church. One of the locals was quick to point out that this was real gold!

And more gold. This was really a work of art.

The statues along the sides of the church were very realistic.

Another statue.

Outside again in the courtyard.

Entering the Mission Courtyard. This was the first Mission to be established and what would be the El Camino Real. They were established from here to Sonoma County (CA)

The courtyard.

A very old canoe, carved from a solid piece of wood!

This looked interesting although we were unable to find out what it actually did. We really do need to work on our Spanish.

This was a water wheel.
